It’s been a very busy time for the One Day crew.

Horrorshow and Spit Syndicate have just released new albums in Bardo State and One Good Shirt Had Us All Fly, while Jackie Onassis are dropping their Leisure EP this Friday. Somehow, in between crafting all of these certified heaters, One Day have also managed to kickstart Roses – a new club night hitting the rooftop terrace at Home Bar on Fridays.

The final member of the One Day, Joyride is also busy chipping away at a solo project to drop in 2017, but has just handed us a bangin’ 50-minute mix in celebration of their latest venture. It’s a little taste of what to expect at Roses, featuring tunes from all of his One Day brethren, a healthy dose of Migos and a vivacious edit of Rihanna’s underrated ANTI jam, ‘Sex With Me.’ If anything’s gonna get you through a sluggish Tuesday arvo, then this is it.

This Friday at Home Bar, Joyride will be joined by One Day CEO, Nick Lupi and a slew of local selectors including Liz Bird, Batesy, Matka and Mowgli May. They’ll be dropping club favourites and sexy R&B jams aplenty until the wee hours of the morning, all on a dancefloor with trillion dollar harbour views. Keep up to date with the Facebook event here and listen to the mix below, where you’ll also find a quick interview with the dynamite duo themselves, the honourary Joyride and Nick Lupi.

Put on your party pants and head on down to Roses on Friday:

You guys made quite a mark on Sydney’s party scene with ODS. What was your motto/ethos when it began, and how did it change over the years?

Nick Lupi: From the start, the ethos behind One Day Sundays was about putting on a Rap and RnB party during the daytime, that we, our crew and likeminded MFs would vibe on. We weren’t planning on it being something that would strike such a chord or become as big a part of our lives as it did, but we’re stoked it did and does. To be honest, that original ethos hasn’t changed a great deal.

Roses - Friday 30th June

How are you guys transferring the energy from ODS into Roses? What are the main hurdles you have to overcome when moving from a day block party into a club night?

Nick Lupi: We’re not really overthinking it. Mad DJs, dope tunes, a fun and welcoming atmosphere devoid of any pretentious BS. We’re not trying to reinvent any wheels here, we’re just trying to do some fun and cool shit. At first, I thought we’d miss the sun hitting people’s faces as they danced and smiled and vibed out, but then I saw the city skyline and harbour all lit up at night, and all was right in the world.

How do you think Roses differs from Sydney’s nightlife scene, or people’s perceptions of Sydney clubbing?

Joyride: It seems like the general perception is that Sydney nightlife is dead. I think that perception fits neatly in some people’s narratives, but realistically the majority of young people still want to go out and enjoy themselves. In terms of being different, there aren’t too many club nights where you’ll find such a concentrated level of sickunts this side of the gotdam equator.

As seasoned DJs, what tracks are earning the biggest reactions on dancefloors right now?

Joyride: Biggest tracks at the moment are Manu Crook$ – Everyday, Saint Jhn – 3 Below and Nadia Rose – Skwod.

What’s next for One Day and their relentless vertical/horizontal integration?

Nick Lupi: Relentless vertical/horizontal integration across events, clothing (check out new line of apparel here), podcasts, artist management, touring, brand partnerships, all the whilst the One Day acts are releasing and touring new albums. We’re going harder than ever, and why TF not.
