The True Vibenation member topped the world music charts with ‘Lifted,’ a vivacious track filled with tribal energy and undeniable rhythm. Soon, Klue will be touring the single across the country from June to July, and now he’s handed us an exclusive mix of songs that he was listening to while compiling his latest gem. As Klue himself explains:
“I started ‘Lifted’ in a café in Berlin while we were on True Vibenation Europe tour last year. My band mates Moody and Vuli were skyping their girlfriends, I was single and lonely so I started making a beat. It slowly progressed on planes and buses between shows, and then, after the tour finished we had some downtime in Portugal and I had this one moment of overwhelming natural high that inspired the vocals on this tune.”
See the mix, annotated tracklist and tour dates below, and catch Klue performing ‘Lifted’ in a city near you soon:
Anderson.Paak – Come Down
Malibu was probably the record I listened to most last year. Seeing this guy sing and drum both amazingly well, at the same time, is a bit ridiculous. That’s not even fair.
Dele Sosimi – E Go Betta (O’Flynn Edit)
Dele is a living legend of Afrobeat. He was keys player for Fela Kuti’s band back in the 80’s and he still puts on a damn good show. He played the same stage we did at Glastonbury so we ended up running into him backstage and he was a total hero!
Mura Masa – Firefly (feat. Nao)
Kilter played this to me in the studio the first time I heard it and I was just like “Dude, what the fuck is this?” Such a tune.
Kaytranada – Together (feat. AlunaGeorge)
99% was one of my favourite records of last year, and this tune was one of my faves from that record.
Captain Planet – Un Poquito Mas (feat. Chico Mann)
One of my favourite producers. Everything this guy does is fire.
Jarreau Vandal – Small Talk
My band mate Moody was playing this all through the True Vibenation tour, then after that I went to France to play Positive Festival and it turned out Jarreau was on it too. If you ever get a chance to see his set, sort it out.
The Busy Twist – Floor Excitement
Everything this guy does is awesome. This isn’t a new tune, but it’s one that I keep on going back to, and you would have probably heard if you’ve seen a Klue dj set in recent times.
Beating Heart – The Work (Rudimental Remix)
This is from a wicked compilation called Beating Heart Malawi, where they got a bunch of producers to remix music and field recordings from the International Library of African Music and the proceeds from the record help fund aid programs in Malawi. This Rudimental remix is awesome.
Jynx – Charm
Those drums tho! I don’t play dj sets very often these days, but when I do..
Bonobo – Kerela
It’s wild to see this guy just put out awesome album after awesome album. I think it’s safe to say that this guys is one of my favourite producers and definitely has had some influence on how I make music.
Bixiga 70 – Niran
We went and checked these guys out on recommendation from a mate and they did not disappoint. We’d been at Glastonbury for a few days by this stage and had seen some great music, but nothing that had really made us dance. These guys fixed that, proper.
Skales – Shake Body
My Bare Necessities cohost Sam Z played this on the show ages back and I still haven’t stopped listening to it. Neither should you.
Jarreau Vandal – Don’t Think About It
Sampha’s vocals and Jarreau Vandal production is always gonna be good. Oh and there’s some Drake in there somewhere…
Jack Garrett – Fire
We saw this guy live at Glastonbury and I’m pretty sure he’d have to be one of the most talented people on the planet at the moment, plus seemed like a dude. Amazing show, bought the album as soon as we’d managed to get rid of the Glasto mud.
