Kanyon impressed us with his debut Metromorphosis EP back in 2014, which featured its fair share of baby-making tunes, sad emo tunes and a few smooth dancefloor numbers for good measure.

Now, the Sydney beat-making multi-instrumentalist is back with another bite-sized release, and this time we’ve got the exclusive premiere! Kanyon has just shared his In This Version EP, which consists of four tracks filled with reclining riffs, sensual beats and morphed vocals that touch the soul. Just imagine listening to this stuff during sunset while you’re smoking a hand-rolled dart and eating an apple strudel, looking out onto the vast ocean and contemplating your mortality. Heaven. Kanyon explains that the roller-coaster ride of being an independent artist has inspired this release, but we think he’s doing alright:

“Doing this stuff independently comes with its ups and downs, and whenever I sat down to write In This Version I could feel that really come through the music. My goal is and always has been to create a soundscape that achieves both escapism for the listener in a private setting, as well as creating an urge to body roll and vibe on a dancefloor,” he says.

And body roll we will! To celebrate the release, Kanyon will be returning to his spiritual home of Oxford Art Factory on Thursday July 28, supported by Commandeur – the drummer for Future Classic favourites Panama – as well as Embassy and URSO. Head along to hear In This Version and some old Kanyon favourites in a live setting, and grab your tickets for just 10 bones via Moshtix tomorrow morning. Kanyon live shows feature vocals, guitars, synths and beats, so bring the whole damn family for a nice time:
