Bring it on.

With the new year comes new music, so here are five bands we are hoping will be producing some more ear candy for us in 2019.

The Strokes

It’s been a while between drinks for The Strokes in terms of albums. Their last release was their three track (four if you include the remix of ‘OBLIVIUS’) Future Present Past, whilst their last full album was their ill-received Comedown Machine, way back in 2013. With members keeping busy with side/solo projects in recent years, Julian Casablancas has previously stated that 2019 would be the most likely year that we will be hearing new stuff from the indie-rock lords. Fingers crossed.

Tame Impala

It seems like an eternity since the last full-length from Tame. Currents, which spawned singles like ‘The Less I Know The Better’ and ‘‘Cause I’m A Man, Woman’, was released all the way back in 2015. We all know Kevin Parker has been teaming up with heavyweights in the music industry of late, including Kanye West and SZA, but he has gone on record with Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson stating he’d be “disappointed” if there wasn’t a new Tame record in the summer of 2019. Stay tuned.

GOAT

With only a live album coming from the Swedish kings and queens of psych/world music since 2016’s acoustically lead Requiem, fans are beginning to get a little hopeful something new is just around the corner. With one of the masked members releasing an excellent solo record under the moniker Goatman this year, we can only cross our fingers and hope that it will be the beginning of a cavalcade of new GOAT in 2019.

Violent Soho

With the lads from Mansfield taking some time out post the release of their much celebrated WACO LP, it feels like 2019 might be the perfect year for a comeback. If you do the maths – their self-titled debut came out in 2010, Hungry Ghost hit us in 2013, and WACO blew us away in 2016 – a 2019 release would fit their three year pattern. Something tells me theses guys don’t play by the rules (especially arithmetic), but who knows?

Mac Demarco*

Though it only seems like a short while since his 2016 LP, Old Dog came out, fans of human smoke machine might be getting itchy feet from some new music. Considering he’s released five records since 2012, it’s fair to assume that something new from the crooner is just around the corner. Maybe 2019 will see the “return of the Mac.”
*We know he’s not a “band”, but you know what we mean.
