Aussie artists are still dropping ripper performances despite COVID.

I don’t think anyone would argue that the music industry has been one of the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Not only have thousands of people in the industry lost their jobs, but many ticket-holding punters have missed out on catching live shows from their favourite acts. It’s been a massive adjustment, but many artists have adapted and are releasing tunes from iso that have kept the live music energy alive.

So take a look at some of the finest below and try to now get excited for the return of live music – we dare ya.

DMA’S – ‘Lay Down’

It’s no secret that Tommy O’Dell has one of the most recognisable voices in the Australian musical landscape at the moment. Here, the frontman strips back their 2015 single, letting his vocals soar over a simple piano arrangement. Their third album, The Glow is out July 10th, pre-order it here.

Cub Sport – ‘Born To Die’ (Lana Del Rey cover)

We teamed up with Cub Sport for the second episode of our Live At 5ive series, presented by Boost Mobile, and the group’s Tim Nelson covered this Lana Del Rey hit from 2011 with all the class and emotion the track deserved. Their new album LIKE NIRVANA is out July 24th and we couldn’t be more excited! Check out some of the rad bundles their offering with the release right here.

Tasman Keith

Rappers have been getting amongst it too and LWA favourite Tasman Keith is no stranger to unleashing fire bars. Here, the Bowraville-come-Sydney rapper spits some rhymes from iso with that level of venom we’ve heard from him on track like ‘Billy Bad Again’ and many more. There’s a reason why he’s touted as the next big thing is Aussie hip hop:

Ali Barter – ‘Live From Inside’

Tuning in to Ali Barter’s run of shows from various rooms around her house has been one of the highlights from life in lockdown, with the indie singer-songwriter stripping back some of her biggest tracks and hitting the road for us (well, kinda). The album is available on Bandcamp now and is definitely going to be one of those records we keep coming back to for years when we need a reminder of how we spent our time in iso:

Bad//Dreems – ‘Gallows’

The closing song from their album Doomsday Ballet, this track is a sucker-punch straight to the heart from Adelaide’s finest. Considering they’d be on the road for a national tour right now, it’s a bittersweet performance for those of us who were looking forward to a sweaty date in the pit. Still, a bloody great performance. Check it out and hit their IGTV for more!
