Combing a disco beat with his RnB flow, the latest track from JAYDEAN is made for shaking off that working week dust. The percussion and bass-heavy backing, which is a little reminiscent of JT’s ‘Sexyback’ (only with a little extra funk), leaves plenty of space for some incredibly smooth vocals, with the Aussie artist swooning us into ecstasy.
“The song is based around having an intense crush on someone and thinking about that person constantly, not knowing what it is that makes you feel so drawn to them. All you know is that you want to see them all the time. The use of the word ‘sugar’ is a metaphor because your attraction to this crush is almost like an addiction,” JAYDEAN says.
Conjuring up the sounds of Dangerous-era Michael Jackson, 80s obsessed pop duo Client Liaison have returned with their first new track of 2020 in the form of ‘Intervention’. The song is an uplifting message of resilience from Monte and Harvey – “It’s an Intervention, to lift you up to tonight” because “Everybody needs a bit of love and affection.” Check it here:
Continuing down the path of electro bangers, the latest from Aussie/Kiwi duo Flowidus is one for those of you who are sorely missing the techno scene. Imagine this one at the evening’s peak with an epic light show… This is easily one of the most promising things to come out of the AU/NZ bubble in a long time. Dig in:
Light as a feather, stiff as aboard, light as a feather, stiff as a board. If you haven’t seen 90s teen witch horror/drama The Craft, you oughta call in sick today and do so. Then you can come back and fully appreciate the latest from Sydney punk/alt outfit Boysclub, who’ve recreated some of the film’s most memorable moments to a tee in their ‘Villains’ clip. Of course, it also helps that the track, which blends the best parts of Hole and Regular John (if you know, you know), is an absolute corker. This is no fluke either, Boysclub have dropped four of the hardest-hitting tracks this year and backed them up with equally as impressive videos. If there’s one good thing we can take away from 2020, they might be it.
“‘Villains’ talks about a place that sounds appealing only for it to turn explosive when you are no longer alone in that place you find yourself at. The chorus is pure desperation of wanting someone to not leave your side no matter what. Regardless of how unhealthy this company might be, you feel you can’t exist or function without it,” lead singer and guitarist Sera Doll says.

Coming with the Flightless Records seal of approval, this tune from Melbourne quartet The Slingers sounds a little like if Roy Orbison were playing a down-on-his-luck cowboy bluesman in an ‘80s drama. Which is our way of saying close your eyes and prepare to drift into croon heaven. The track is part of a double A-side 7″ that also features ‘Kind Hearts’ and is definitely one to be enjoyed with a side of whisky (and loneliness).
