Five Fresh Tracks To Dip Into This Weekend
Presented by Jim Beam.

Once again, we’ve teamed up with Jim Beam to bring you five tunes that have dropped in (pretty much) the last 24hrs. As usual, this week’s a real mixed bag.

Hayley Mary – ‘The Chain’

Having hit earholes and eyeholes of music fans last year with The Piss, The Perfume (which is 100% a sentence I’ve dreamed of writing) it seemed only a matter of time before indie-rock poet Hayley Mary returned with new music. Yesterday she shared new tune ‘The Chain’ which sees her maintain the pop sensibility of her debut while offering some deeper harmonic layers via synths and a spattering mini symphony of chorus-drenched guitars. Like the tracks on TP,TP this is one that you’ll catch yourself singing out of nowhere on the bus/car/bike/horse trip home.

The clip, which was directed by Tyson Perkins, is a real peach too. Check it out:

Banquet Darling – ‘Days Of Dream’

Ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole? Brisbane-based indie-rocker Banquet Darling is here to guide you. His debut track ‘Days Of Dream’ gives a modern psych edge to classic Go-Betweens-esque songwriting with a couple of twists and turns. The melody of the chorus is so strong that by the time that the second one hits you’ve already joined in, as Banquet Darling documents a journey into the deep reaches of his mind. As you’d expect, the clip is fittingly trippy and follows him on a journey of metamorphosis amplified by some kooky characters and a (literal) bucket load of fruit:

Alt Fiction – ‘Can’t Get It Right’

When you listen to trio Alt Fiction, it’s hard not to draw comparison to bands from the early 2000s indie-rock revolution such as The Strokes, Razorlight and so on. Which makes the fact that these guys honed their skills in a backyard shed in South-East Queensland even more impressive. Not that we’re saying there’s no vibe out there, we’re just saying that we can’t imagine there is a big scene for a band like this to flourish in. But we’re thankful that they have, with their latest single ‘Can’t Get It Right’ firm evidence that these young fellas have a knack for delivering hook after hook after hook.

Egoism – ‘Happy’

Following on from singles, “What Are We Doing?”, “You You”, and Here’s the Thing, Inner-West duo Egoism have today released their debut EP. Closing track ‘Happy’ perfectly sums up everything we love about them – it’s raw, while also optimistic, energetic, while also melancholic. Definitely one to spend this weekend with.

Timi Temple – ‘Just A Phase’

You’ve heard us harp on about DIY lord Timi Temple a million times, even in this very segment, and once again he’s delivering saucey melodies with his latest ‘Just A Phase’. Just sit back and enjoy:
