It means time for some new music, of course. Why do labels/artists/the music industry always drop brand new music on Fridays? I have no idea. But it’s always nice to have a weekend to get into some new music and give a track or artist a chance to sink their claws in. It’s often how we discover some of our favourite music; when we have nothing to do but listen.
We’ve taken some of the guesswork out of this for you, teaming up with our pals Jim Beam to bring you five brand new tracks that have pricked our ears. Check it out below:
The third album from Wollongong indie-rockers Hockey Dad is finally here. Brain Candy will be getting some serious spins this weekend we reckon, and they’ve even chucked in a video for their track ‘Germaphobe’, which probably couldn’t have come at a more fitting time than now… Check it out below:

This guy was once Billie Eilish’s drummer and somehow his music made its way down to the ears of the good people at Dew Process who (thank god) have helped him bring it to our earholes. It’s a real collaborative track too. “I was feeling lonely because of the COVID lockdowns, so I sent out this song to just about every musician I know to sing backing vocals on the chorus,” explains Marinelli on the song’s key moment. “There are 14 people singing on this song in total!”
What happens when WA’s finest rapper links up with Sydney’s smoothest producers? You get ‘Just A Phase’; a laidback tune, perfect for that afternoon session just as the sun is going down and the nighttime debauchery is calling. That’s our plan for the weekend anyway… Careful with this one – once it’s in your ears it’s hard to get it out:

We’re getting so much joy from this video. Definitely the track you want to be listening to this afternoon as the weekend slowly creeps up on you. It’s the second collab in a couple of years from the British electro duo and the Malian vocalists, following on from their 2018 Grammy-nominated track ‘Ultimatum’, and it’s equally as infectious. Dig in and try not to smile as you do so:

We’re really vibing on this track from indie-folk artist Hayden Calnin. Taken from his Soon Forever EP (due September 4th), the tune sways between moments of deep euphoria and uplifting bursts effortlessly, with Calnin handling the swelling with great skill. The clip, which he directed himself, is equally as meditative and immersive as the music it accompanies. Check it:
