This weekend’s gonna be a scorcher and we’ve brought you a sizzling playlist to go with it.

With today, Saturday and Sunday looking like they’re going to be unseasonably hot on Australia’s east coast, we’re getting a touch over-excited. It feels like an age since we’ve had that “day for it” kind of weather and, though we would never say those words in public, it’s shaping up to be one of those weekends. So whether you’re chilling at home, at the beach, or wherever… here are some ice cool, brand new tunes to get soundtrack your weekend, presented by Jim Beam:

Genesis Owusu – ‘I Am’

Uganda via Canberra rapper Genesis Owusu has today served up a tasty slice of funk that screams Friday night in the form of ‘I Am’. Pairing his silky vocal delivery with synths, some slapped bass and an infectious call and response chorus, this track proves that the enigmatic artist will not be easily categorised or contained. The track coincides with the announcement that he’s signed with London-based record label, House Anxiety, that also features the likes of King Krule, Courtney Barnett and Afro B.

Crooked Colours – ‘Love Language’

Fancy a euphoric, dancey banger to kick off your Friday? Look no further than this steamy track from Crooked Colours. “This song is about the different ways in which we communicate our love for each other. How special it is to find someone that speaks the same love language as you. It’s a celebration of the uniqueness of relationships,” vocalist Philip Slabber says of the track lyrics.

Boysclub – ‘Lovesick’

Following on from their debut track ‘She, the Atrocity’, Sydney punk force Boysclub return with another relentless mix of thrashy drums, gritty guitars and anthemic vocals. ‘Lovesick’ is backed up by an epic video that sees the group take over a once-peaceful mansion and mess the place up. We’re predicting some big things from Boysclub, so get in now while they’re still wearing that up-and-coming tag. Head here to order their split 7”.

Chase Zera – ‘Saving Bugs’

Feel like dancing this weekend? Sure, that probably won’t be happening in any clubs, but this Chase Zera release definitely deserves a physical accompaniment – even if it’s in your lounge room, in your pyjamas.

Your Girl Pho – ‘Surrender’

Straight from Perth, R&B vocalist/producer Phoebe Gunson AKA Your Girl Pho comes through with an extremely smooth track that feels like it could have easily found a home on The Fugees’ iconic album The Score. “This is an ode for the people who let love go and who won’t surrender to another. I’m singing to a person who has had their walls up, and holds a strong front – having a past of not letting anyone in,” Phoebe says of the track. Dig it:
