We’ve got plenty of fresh Aussie tunes to delve right into.

It seems over the past few weeks there’s been a crazy influx of awesome new Aussie music, which is why this article has gone from a monthly thing to a weekly thing. Can’t keep up with it all? Follow our Spotify playlist for our favourite local lords and lordettes who are releasing tasty ear treats right now.

Georgia June

It feels like a while since we’ve heard new music from Georgia June, and her new single ‘Prove Myself’ is everything we’ve been waiting for. Expanding on her 80’s-flavoured previous singles, the tune is a more mature version of the group, with Georgia’s knack for delivering personal yet universal lyrics once again on full display. You can catch them playing a bunch of shows over the next couple of months including a headliner at Vic On The Park, March 29th – gig info here.

RAAVE TAPES

We’re not sure if Novocastrian trio RAAVE TAPES put the disco into punk or the punk into disco, but whatever they’re doing, we’re very into it. Their latest tune ‘stabs’ is another example of the group’s huge energy which has seen them earn supports with the likes of DZ Deathrays, Dune Rats, and The Gooch Palms. And it seems like only a matter of time before RAAVE TAPES are reaching the pinnacle of the Aussie indie-punk scene.

Battlesnake

Conjuring up more mystical and medieval imagery than a Dungeons & Dragons convention, Sydney shredders Battlesnake’s debut single ‘Nightmare King’ is six minutes of pure shredding rock ‘n’ roll, reminiscent of classic rock acts like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC. Their live show is fittingly epic, and we stringly recommend catching them live in April on their ‘Taste The Snake’ tour – info here.

ILUKA

We’ve been spinning ‘Closer To You’, the latest tune from Sydney dream-popper ILUKA pretty much non-stop since it hit our ears a few days ago. Sucking us in with a groovy beat and some massively hooky vocals, the vintage-tinged singer is a long overdue addition to our playlist. You can catch her launching the single with two other awesome playlistees, Charlie Gradon and BOYDOS (info here)

Julia Jacklin

We thought we’d chuck this in just In case you missed our video interview with Julia, or haven’t heard what we think is one of the standout tracks on her new record Crushing. The Blue Mountains-come-Melbourne singer really cuts us right to the core on this one, which is her first piano-lead ballad. We could listen to this one all day (and probably will).
