We celebrated Kanye West’s birthday earlier this week, and the party continues with a special edition of Player Hater’s Ball honouring the Chi-town legend. From ‘Through The Wire’ to ‘Run This Town’ to ‘Ultralight Beam’, there’s absolutely no shortage of Kanye hits, epics and guest verses – expect to hear them all on this night, which also promises to play his ‘extended rants’ – huge! On the decks will be the legendary Adit of Horrorshow, Shantan Wantan Ichiban of Triple J and the omnipresent FlexMami, while The Goods will be playing a live cover set. We’ve got our fingers crossed for ‘Devil In A New Dress’ including Rick Ross’ iconic verse. Furthermore, this flyer features Kim Kardashian in a pastel velour tracksuit, need we say more?
Festival heavyweights Fuzzy have unveiled their newest venture in Curve Ball, an all-day event taking over Carriageworks as part of Vivid. Headlining the whole jam is elusive house producer ZHU, while the diverse lineup is rounded up by electic electronica bros like Cosmo’s Midnight and Basenji placed alongside vocalists like Nicole Millar and JOY. There’s also a miniature stage that sits alongside the main acts, bringing Sydney club heavyweights like Adam Bozzetto, Nes and G Coo to spin some of your favourites. Kicking off at 3:00pm and lasting seven hours, head along to Curve Ball to see a shitload of local talent.
Starting from tonight, BBE will be throwing their Winter Weekender – a three day soiree at Oxford Art Factory with global talent from all over the electronica spectrum. Friday features techno queen LOUISAHHH taking the stage for a three hour set, while Saturday will see BBE team up with internet clique Sidechains to present Kuwait musician and artist Fatima Al Qadiri. The legends at Sidechains even whipped us up an exclusive mix in preparation of the event – listen in here and put on your dancing shoes for this one. On Sunday, the Winter Weekender will wrap up with Digitalism stepping in for a DJ set, supported by longtime local dancefloor legends Bang Gang. Prepare for nostalgic bangers and a very loose time.
The Naughty Noughties is back once again at The Cliff Dive, delivering all of your favourite hip-hop hits from the 2000s. Seeing as it’s the Queen’s birthday, it’s only right that they honour hip-hop royalty – headliner DJ Chardonnay (Wordlife/Motorik) will be dropping a 20-minute Mariah Carey medley at midnight. ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Obsessed’ are just two of Mariah’s unforgettable anthems from this decade, so warm the vocal pipes for some mammoth sing-a-longs. Rounding up the lineup will be West Sydney’s own Jordvn and Tulett, who kindly made us this exclusive mix ahead of his set. As always, hosts Nes and 24 Karat Kev will also be in the building to yell Ja Rule lyrics.
After selling out with conviction last year, the Heaps Gay festival is back to take over The Factory Theatre with three stages of music and art across two levels of the Inner-West venue. Astral People’s own Rainbow Chan will be performing alongside live sets from Collarbones and the Heaps Decent clique, while DJ sets will be handled by Sydney club favourites like Levins, Ariane and Adi Toohey. There’s also someone named ‘Fleetwood Crack’ on the bill, 10 points. Melbourne’s own veteran selector Yo! Mafia will be making the trip up north for the festival, accompanied by a performance by the Heaps Twerking Crew. An entire day of colour and carnival vibes, get stuck in!
