The masters of weirdo electronica, Sidechains are back for another night at Hudson Ballroom with R&B singer Leng Hock on headline duties, straight from the Sunshine State. With his preference for autotune and moody production, he’s a seamless fit for Sidechains and their emphasis on everything online – and his new single ‘Discreet’ is one of the most surprising Australian hip-hop tracks we’ve heard in recent times. The queen FlexMami is also on support duties, so head along and get inspired.
The multi-talented legends over at Bad Deep count party-throwing as an area of expertise – and they’re throwing another shindig on a goddamn rooftop this Saturday. Taking place at Kings Cross Hotel, it’s an adequate precursor for summer with Adit (Horrorshow) on headline duties, joined by Bad Deep’s own in-house DJs and a host of locals. It’s all free and kicks off in the afternoon – expect house, disco, cocktails and a nice time.
For over seven years, Halfway Crooks have been Sydney’s premier monthly rap party – and much of their appeal can be attributed to not only playing contemporary rap bangers, but also welcoming emerging DJs as special guests each and every month. Joining veterans Levins & Franco in November will be Yemisul & Ebony Boadu, the brains behind IZMZ Magazine and two-thirds of GIRLS. The presidential don Batesy has also been added as a late inclusion, making this a goddamn blockbuster.
Did you ever own camo shorts, spray-on jeans, a white belt, Macbeths, or a carabiner? If you answered ‘yes’ to at least three of the above, then you need to be at Smells Like Teen Angst – a night celebrating throwback emo/alternative/punk hits. Things were easier when we were 15, painted our nails and swore at strangers – and this party at The Lord Gladstone will have you moshing and crying at the same damn time. We’re getting in our requests now: The catalogues of Alkaline Trio, Underoath and The Used, please.
Okay, so this isn’t technically on this weekend – but we couldn’t resist throwing this hump-day doozy hitting Sydney next week. Breakout Korean trap sensation Keith Ape – who’s been responsible for a huge segment of swag lords wearing surgical masks – will be touring Australia for the first time, hitting Melbourne on November 8th before Sydney’s turn on November 9th. On top of his earthquake-inducing single ‘It G Ma’, Ape now holds collaborations with Waka Flocka Flame and ASAP Ferg under his belt. Head along and get in the pit, but don’t damage your Bape goods.
