Whether he’s performing as one quarter of Thundamentals or as a solo artist, Tuka has established himself as one of the most passionate voices in the local hip-hop scene – skyrocketing from the Blue Mountains into national attention, ARIA nominations and international tours. His 2015 album Life Death Time Eternal furthered his penchant for sonic exploration, and you can witness it live as part of Red Bull’s monthly Sound Select showcase. Tuka will be joined by the soulful Sampa The Great and South-West Sydney emcee B Wise, who’s gearing up for the release of his debut EP. This show is just $3 with RSVP, which is pretty fuckin’ great because what can $3 really buy you nowadays? A meat pie or a Mars Bar if you’re extremely lucky. Head down and witness local talent for next to nothing.

Do you lack the skill, determination and patience to complete a Rubick’s Cube? Here’s some good news, coming straight out of Bondi Junction: Culture Machine & Free Radical TV will be hosting a Rubick’s Cube party at El Topo Basement. Basically, here’s the premise: You go thrift shopping and buy lots of colourful clothes, turn up to El Topo and then trade clothes with other punters until you become one solid colour. Throw some booze and tunes from Winston Surfshirt into the mix, and it sounds like this could get very, very interesting. Get multicolour and head over to El Topo to live out your lifelong dream of becoming a three-dimensional inanimate puzzle.

Are you one of those people that loves going out but hates getting ready because you’re a lazy piece of shit? Leave your jeans, heels and jackets at home on Saturday, because Sydney’s staple 90s appreciation night is throwing a goddamn pyjama party. Rhythm Of The Night will be spinning all of your favourite throwback R&B and rap in the front bar, while the back room will host 90s dance classics from Vengaboys to Madison Avenue. Residents Levins & Ariane will be joined by a huge local lineup that includes that guy Charlie Chux, fresh off his support slots for What So Not. Whether you sleep in a silk one piece or first class Qantas pyjamas, get your coziest sleeping attire out at Plan B Small Club.

It’s no secret that Kings Cross has taken an absolute battering over the past few years thanks to the lockout laws, with everywhere from Trademark to Hugo’s Lounge to Bada Bing closing their doors. However, Sydney’s party spirit is still well alive, and will be in full flex mode at the ‘Welcome to Kings Cross’ party at the precinct’s iconic Kings Cross Hotel. From the dive bar to the rooftop, 20 of the city’s premium selectors will be playing across five levels in this monster soiree. The lineup has been curated by Adam Lewis and features some of our favourites including the ever-versatile Nes, Wordlife legend Kato, Triple J done Shantan Wantan Ichiban, style queen FlexMami and our impressively ambitious friends over at Bad Deep! This is a mammoth celebration of local talent and at just $10, you’re paying 50 cents per DJ. What a fuckin’ bargain!

Sydney’s premier half-Serbian selector Nes is returning to The Cliff Dive once more, with an entire night of R&B love song dedications to help all of the hopeless romantics grind on the dancefloor. Expect lots of slow tracks produced by DJ Mustard, off-kilter sing-a-longs and Cupid’s presence all over Darlinghurst’s favourite Tiki Bar. Joining Nes will be Matka and King Lee, and at just five bones after 10:00pm, this is an easy pick for those who don’t want to stay around Oxford St and the surrounds. Remember that Nes will also be throwing her 2000s rap soiree The Naughty Noughties in a fortnight, so prepare for more madness when the long weekend hits.
