The last L D R U video for ‘Next To You‘ featured an animate banana in a turtleneck getting killed and fed to his lover. Need we say more? The Sydney producer has been smashing it as of late, with ‘Next To You’ and ‘Keeping Score’ remaining on high rotation – with the latter even earning a remix from mischievous duo The Meeting Tree. Prepare to feel all those poolside vibes and summer tunes aplenty when L D R U plays the first of two shows in Sydney, with his national tour ending just a few weeks before he takes over Splendour In The Grass. Pineapples on the flyer and lots of pina coladas – Head down to OAF tonight for bouncing electronic anthems.
Sidechains is celebrating two years of Internet-based soundscapes by bringing Masayoshi Iimori to Plan B Small Club. The burgeoning Japanese producer has released material on the Skrillex-supported Nest HQ and Daruma, which also happens to be the name of a pretty neat bar in Chinatown – definitely go there to get turnt and definitely see Masayoshi Iimori tear the house down. Supports come from the likes of Sortagoth – an accurate description of the past seven years of my life – and more, so help usher Sidechains into their third year of ecclectic beats.
M.O.P. might be our favourite rap duo of all time – tied with Mobb Deep and Outkast – so you knew we had to include a night called ‘Ante Up’ into our weekly wrap-up. Taking over the intimate Play Bar in Surry Hills, the event promises Golden Era hip-hop, 2000s classics, and we’re assuming a little bit of Chance The Rapper since he’s on the flyer. Plus, the Facebook event has namedropped Ric Flair for some reason, which gets seven thumbs up from us! White Girls (best name ever) will be performing with local legend Dewis and Krystel Diola rounding up the showcase. Oh yeah, it’s also free!
So, according to press releases Snails is known as ‘The King of Vomitstep’ – but this show is probably going to be more fun than paddling around in puddles of your own puke. Having previously played a blockbuster show in Sydney alongside Major Lazer, What So Not & more, we can confirm that Snails gets the floor moving – and now he jumps in for a headline show on the Enter Slugz City tour. If you like music with lots of bass or just have a preference for slimy creatures, then head along to this show.
Gucci Mane was recently released from prison, and what better way to celebrate than holding an entire night of Atlanta anthems! Guwop will be just one rapper getting plenty of replay value at Halfway Crooks’ ATL party – we can’t even count the amount of heaters that have emerged from the Southern city. How about Outkast’s entire discography, not to mention T.I and Young Jeezy! Knowing these guys, there might even be a Waka Flocka Flame medley, while we’re also keeping our fingers crossed for lots of Rae Sremmurd, Young Thug & Future. As always, DJ Levins and Captain Franco will be taking care of the tunes, while this month will see the return of Australia’s Number. 1 Strip Club DJ, Leon Smith. Head along and rap all the lyrics to ‘All Gold Everything‘.
