Locals Without.

Sydney’s live scene is looking the healthiest it has since the pre-lockout days, and we’ve got the list of acts you oughta be tuning in to.

Sometimes it can get a little tricky to keep up with all the new music coming out. It seems right now everyone is either getting those pre-summer releases out, or they’re in the studio working on new stuff. Is there an easier way to stay on top of things? If only there was some sort of Spotify playlist with fresh local tracks.

Quit pulling your hair out, and let us introduce to you Locals Without, our new playlist that will keep you in the loop with our favourite indie/psych/rock acts getting round. Here’s the first five acts that will be featured.

Check out the playlist, give it a follow, and get out there and see some bands.

The Buoys

We caught The Buoys at Peter Bibby last night and we were thoroughly impressed. There wasn’t a dull moment in their set, with the group effortlessly blazing through their catalogue of raw indie-rock tracks. Frontwoman Zoe Cat’s energy is infectious, and we can see this group taking off in the next six months or so, with their sophomore EP just around the corner. Check out their upcoming shows here.

Dives

Rising from the ashes of Sydney psych/punk stalwarts SCK CHX, Josh Pearson’s new project Dives couldn’t more different – it’s dreamy departure that is centred around electronic beats and deeply melodic vocals. With Pearson currently recruiting members from other Yeah Nah Yeah acts for the Dives live show, you can expect to see some epic performances coming very soon.

Ultracrush

New kids on the block, Ultracrush spent the last couple of years DIY recording their debut tracks – and it was well worth the wait. Their debut track swimming is just the right balance between poppy ballad and groovy jam with the five-piece clearly capable of taking things up a gear at just the right times. They’re playing live tonight with Fritz at Brighton up bar – info here.

100

We caught 100’s sold out show at The Chippo last weekend and well and truly had our haircuts blown away. Outside of saving you money next time at the barber, 100 also deliver melancholic post-punk that punches you right in the face (in the best kind of way). Their debut EP Cortisone is 16 minutes of heavy guitars, hooky vocals and chunky bass, that’s easily our favourite release of the year so far. Catch them playing at Psyched As November 10th – info here.

Boydos

Hooking us in with his heartstrung debut single ‘Plans’, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the debut EP from indie-rocker Boydos. Having just wrapped up a residency at The Lady Hampshire, the crooner is undoubtedly in good form, so catch him while you can at Folkswagon October 31st – info here.
