Five Underrated Sydney Acts According To PLANET

Here’s who’s been making PLANET’s playlists.

It’s been a bloody huge year for Inner-West indie-rockers PLANET. The quartet have played a load of UK headline shows (most of which sold out), supported DZ Deathrays throughout Europe, jumped on a bunch of festivals and released a heap of new music. So, perhaps, “huge” is a bit of an understatement.

Their latest release, ‘Reason Why’ sees the group expand on their core strengths; frontman Matty Took’s soaring vocals, guitarist Tom Peppitt’s melodic hooks, and their infallible rhythm section. It’s more fuel for the PLANET live show, which sees punters connect with the band in a way that’s rarely (if ever) seen these days, singing along to every tune as the lads belt them out.

Having spent all that time abroad there’s no doubt PLANET have spent enough hours in transit to delve into some serious playlisting. Here are the Sydney acts that they reckon should be getting a bit more love. Check it below, head here to stream ‘Reason Why’, and catch PLANET supporting Gyroscope on their 4YRLV tour over the next couple of weeks (dates and info here):

Bland

Oli, the frontman of Bland, was playing bass in another amazing Sydney band (Sunscreen). He’s now stepped away from that to focus on this project. Ultimately, I think that’s gonna be for the benefit of music lovers everywhere. Bland are set to release a new EP which we’d highly recommend to anyone who loves jangly guitar hooks or has a pulse running through their veins.

The Buoys

Underrated, but not for much longer. One of the hardest working bands in Sydney – constantly playing shows without showing any signs of lethargy. One of those bands whose infectious guitar hooks sound as good through your car stereo as they do being belted out live through a massive PA. Having just wowed audiences at Big Sound you should probably get on the “I liked them before they were big” train.

Baby Beef

If you’re looking to broaden your musical horizons then go check out Baby Beef. A very unique sound & voice, catchy songs and a live show you probably wouldn’t get anywhere else in Sydney.

Egoism

Their latest single “What Are We Doing?” is out of control good! Complete pop banger. We played a show with them years ago when we first started so I can’t wait to see them play live again.

Shady Nasty

I’ve seen these guys a few times around Sydney now and their live show is mesmerising… Such a raw sound and energy. They’re already packing out shows and sure to sky rocket pretty soon.
