Oh yeah, Yeezus was pretty terrible too. Still, no matter what you think of the Chi-town enigma, there’s no doubt that he’s cemented himself in hip-hop immortality – whether that be for his outlandish personality or solid catalogue of envelope-pushing works.
Surely, one of his greatest legacies is his longstanding feud with Taylor Swift. Since it ignited back in 2009, the relationship between Yeezy and T-Swizzle has twisted in every direction possible – and now it’s come down to this: A night at Plan B Small Club with two dancefloors celebrating each star, forcing you to choose your side.
Playing at the party is Sydney selector FlexMami, so we asked her to name five Australian celebrities comparable to Kanye West – because let’s be honest, Australia needs it’s own Lord Yeezus. When I envisage Salim Mehajer, words comparable to ‘problematic favourite’, ‘polarising’ and ‘rich’ float around calmly through my #contentcreating mind – and what is ‘Ye if not those things? Like the Lord Yeezus himself, Salim (a.k.a Sydney’s most controversial mayor) is no stranger to drama – both of the political and personal kind. When Mehajer was accused of forging electoral documents, he feigned innocence claiming he was a pawn in ‘a political game’. Meanwhile, in 2005 Ye proclaimed that George Bush “doesn’t like black people” and a mere 10 years later decided that HE was running for President in 2020. Huge if true.

Style icons. Rap geniuses. Sneakerheads AF. While Ye’s spittin’ bars on wearing pink polos in the function, designing one of the most sought after Adidas sneakers and cementing his place as a GOAT – Kerser’s about his ‘blaze up, then trap the Nikes up’ life and can safely revel in his title as Campbelltown’s best MC. Just as Kanye had everyone wearing shutter shades and later leather joggers, Kerser had Western Sydney fiending for even more Lacoste and obnoxious Air Max models.
Whether or not your sonic sensibilities are attuned to this finely tuned rap radar, you can’t deny the similarities. Coincidence? Definitely not.

Both a hop, skip, jump of being the greatest of all time in their own respective fields, Mundine has had a hella rocky relationship with the media: His blatant self-promotion and outspoken opinions have created a love–hate relationship with the world. He has been described as “the most polarizing and controversial athlete in Australian sports history” – if we removed the reference to sport and Australia, this would be a Pitchfork roast about Kanye.

Both stars in their own right, the similarities between Hugh and ‘Ye are clearly unmistakable. Jackman has been known on many an occasion to gloat and gush about his fine AF wifey Deborra-Lee Furness. Meanwhile, Kanye has been candid about his nine year master plan to take Kim from friend to fiancé. In addition to this uncanny discovery, Kanye made a track detailing how much he loves himself, aptly titled ‘I Love Myself’ and comparably Jackman also loves himself… and food. Kanye eats food. I rest my case. *Dusts hands*

Kyrgios is renowned for his messy attitude, respected for his undeniable work ethic and 365 days a year fresh-out-the salon haircut, and has been crowned for being possible the most gifted tennis player since Federer. Hate him or love him, Kanye has been an accomplished thought leader throughtout the duration of his flourishing career, is known casually as a God and made a song with Kid Sister about fresh-out-the-salon nails.
