It’s been a while between drinks for Sydney producers Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell AKA Flight Facilities. The last music we heard from the duo was their ethereal track ‘All Your Love’, which was released what seems like a lifetime ago (but is actually more like a year ago). Today, however, fans can rejoice, they’ve repaid our patience with a shiny new track that is sure to become a summer anthem.
‘Better Than Ever’, which features US artist Aloe Blacc is something of a departure for Flight Facilities (no pun intended), trading shimmering synths and slick beats for soulful singing and happy clapping. “We try to explore all genres with our music, and ‘Better Than Ever’ may be as close to pop as we’ve ever been,” they say of the track.
The clip, which was directed by Tom Noakes is craftily shot too. Here we follow a commuter with a literal itch that he’s gotta scratch with a little help from some fellow passengers. It’s a sweaty ride that suits the communal vibe of the track’s gospel backing nicely – everyone’s there to work it out together.
