Australian singer-songwriter Flynn Sant, also known by his stage name flowerkid, is fast developing a reputation for himself in the Aussie indie pop scene, the young artist on the rise consistently serving up emotionally charged ballads that hit the spot, and leave you reeling in their wake. His latest single, ‘Diss and Disappoint’ stays true to form, however, it seems that we’re now getting a glimpse of the more light-hearted and catchier parts of flowerkid’s sound on the new track. And no surprises here, but it’s a total home run.
Written and produced with Alex Hope in the Tennessee creative hub of Nashville, flowerkid’s first new music of 2023 is a hard-hitting reflection on outgrowing past loves, with the burgeoning pop sensation confessing,“Diss And Disappoint is a song about a special person in your life becoming somebody else. The little things that made you fall for them in the first place, have slowly evaporated into thin air.” The hook of the bop takes from the indie rock sphere as punchy guitar riffs, soaring synths and a collage of vocal effects help elevate the track from an acoustic ballad to a full-blown breakup anthem.
The accompanying music video, directed by Alexandra Galloway, is a vibrant visual representation of ‘Diss and Disappoint’s melancholic yet catchy mood. The video features flowerkid walking through a deserted cityscape, at times looking introspective and at others angry and frustrated. The nature-focused imagery of the cinematic adds a nice sense of contrast to the track’s poignant lyrics, making for an emotionally resonant viewing experience that has become synonymous with flowerkid’s critically-acclaimed live shows.
