When your mother and father were members of Hole and Nirvana, there’s just a tiny bit of pressure for you to follow in their musical footsteps – and now Frances Bean Cobain has premiered what is technically her solo ‘musical debut’ on Instagram.

We’ve put ‘musical debut’ in inverted commas because it only goes for eight seconds long, but that hasn’t stopped the blogosphere from buzzing with excitement and hoping for something more from Cobain. The track in question is ‘The Middle’ by Jimmy Eat World, the quintessential teenage anthem taken from their ultra-moody emo classic Bleed American – with Cobain giving the hook an acoustic makeover. Notably, she’s also wearing a Fred Flintstone shirt and we want three of them right now.

Mother Courtney Love reposted the video with the caption “I know your father is very proud of this as am I baby, I love you to the moon and back.” Cobain was last thrust into the spotlight last year when Montage of Heck was released, detailing the tumultuous life and death of her father and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

Watch the short video below, and let’s hope for a more thorough musical output in the near future:
