To start with the big news first, the band’s long-awaited new album has finally gotten a name, titled angel in realtime., and is set to be released on February 25th next year. The announcement comes hot off a recent string of singles from the band along with numerous teasers on social media, and comes almost four years after their last album Go Farther In Lightness.
As for the subject matter of the new offering, it seems the rock outfit are honing in on lead singer David Le’aupepe’s family history, explaining “The album is about the life and legacy of Dave’s father, indigenous identity, death, grief and God. And also the Angel, Islington.”
The band’s latest single ‘tend the garden’ follows suit, focusing on Le’aupepe’s father, serving as “the most poetic interpretation of his affinity for gardening that I could think of.” In a nice twist, the offering picks up the pace from recent singles ‘the man himself’ and ‘the angel of 8th ave’, fast-paced guitars and clattery drums helping to set a nice and accessible tempo to dive into.
Naturally, news of a new Gang of Youths record will have fans across the country itching to see the new batch of tunes live, and of course, the group have come through, announcing the angel in realtime. tour.
The band will bring the new album to stadiums all across the country in July and August of next year, taking to the likes of Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, Perth’s RAC Arena and Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre. As for fans in Hobart and Brisbane, they suggest signing up to amoreperfectunion.com.au, with some special news to be announced shortly.
