Good to see that frontman David Le’aupepe’s dance moves are as on point as ever…

Sydney rock outfit Gang of Youths are keeping up the gifts after the release of their EP total serene last week, dropping the video for their euphoric new single ‘unison.’

Rooted in frontman David Le’aupepe’s ancestral lineage, ‘Unison’ sees GOY pay tribute to the vast soundscape of the Indigenous Pacific Islands, sampling the work of David Fanshawe, who recorded some of the most prolific indigenous pasifika music anywhere in the world in the 1980s.

The video sees the five-piece jamming out on an otherworldly beach, various pieces of furniture washed up on the sand as if symbolising times gone by. Naturally, we get some uplifting shots of the band jamming out amongst it all, losing themselves to the uplifting strings and drums as Le’aupepe reminds us he’s still more than capable of busting a move.

Speaking on the meaning of the Samoan-born single, Le’aupepe explains “‘unison’ is a deeply important track for us that really signals where the music is headed on the new record.

“I conceived the song in Samoa, my ancestral homeland. Here we sample and introduce the work of David Fanshawe, who travelled to the Pacific Islands in the 1980s and recorded the most extensive library of indigenous Pacific music anywhere in the world.”

A pretty important track and video to say the least. Check it out below.
