Spending too much time on your phone comparing yourself to babes is dangerous.

Having had a barnstorming 2023 which saw her attract spins on triple j, take to the main stage at Splendour, and receive praise from seemingly every music journo in Australia, GIMMY is now sharing the debut single from her debut album Things Look Different Now.

While the Northern Rivers artist may have caught our attention as the brooding, garage(ish) force, the new tune sees her drawn upon the likes of The Smiths and Joy Division, juxtaposing up-tempo energy with dire lyrics. Her vocals are powerful, and a times have this quivering quality that makes them feel like they’ve been ripped straight from the heartand landed on the page.

“The song evokes a lot of nostalgic emotion for me,” GIMMY says of the track. “It was written shortly after my brother had his baby and a lot of friendships ended for me. This track was inspired by the surrealism of how quickly life can change, looking back at photographs from not that long ago and how different it was. It correlates with the ageing process and self reflection of how life is always changing and moving in new ways.”

Shot in an industrial area on a rainy day, the gloominess of the video matches the Brit influence of the track superbly. Director Ben Bloom gets up close with a handheld 16mm camera, as GIMMY along with her bandmates Barclay (drums), Kyle (bass) and Samson (guitar) deliver dazzling, off-kilter performaces.

GIMMY’s new single ‘Things Look Different Now’ is out March 13th and the band’s debut album of the same title is set for release on May 31st via Third Eye Stimuli Records. We hope you love this track as much as we do.
