Peter Bibby is well and truly back.

Did I ever tell you about the time that I got Peter Bibby to tell me about the time he killed a kangaroo with a hatchet? True story. It was around the time of his LP Grand Champion, and in the years since, we’ve been blessed with a string of delightful tunes from the gritty gutter poet from WA. Now, he’s shared his second new single in the form of ‘The Arsehole’ which follows on from last October’s ‘The One’.

The track has an uptempo near-country swagger to it, with Bibby’s inner turmoil shared through a typically boozy comedic lens – there’s not really anyone who does lyrics quite like him. “The words are at times self reflective, at other times accusatory, but all the time really good at hinting at the fact that, maybe, we’re all just a pack of arseholes,” he said.

It comes with the news that his fourth album, Drama King will be released Friday May 31st via Spinning Top Records. The record was moulded byformer Drones guitarist Dan Luscombe who produced it, marking the first time that Bibby has worked with an outside producer on his own tunes.

“I prepared for it knowing that my songs were going to get chopped up and shortened,” said Bibby on working with Luscombe “I’m glad I did, because for the most part, Dan was like, ‘oh, you’ve already solved every problem I had with these’. He was completely underselling himself, because he shaped and sculpted every song on the record into a far more beautiful and articulate thing than I could have on my own.”

Peter Bibby will be hitting the road (and hopefully no kangaroos) over May and June. Check out the dates below and we’ll see you there:
