Swooping in before end of the first half of 2023, Melbourne/Naarm’s Haiku Hands have today released their first single and music video of the year. Titled ‘Nunchucka’, the new bop from the alt-dance trio is a high-energy call to action, one that will have you (as the headline suggests) want to cop a pair of nunchucks and go ham.
The new single is an electronic-punk dance floor cut featuring a choir of sung-spoken verses atop crunching synths, driving percussion and sharp word play. It’s a potent mix of sonics, and one that the trio themselves affirm will “wipe off the patriarchal stain of self-loathing” while adding that it’s a song to listen to “before you go out, when you’re out, and when you get home. Enjoy your life.”
The accompanying music video (directed by Triana Hernandez) is equally as explosive, the cinematic following Haiku Hands and a selection of elusive characters (wearing the most nightmare-inducing masks) battling and responding to the sonics of the song. Of course, there are plenty of nunchucks utilised throughout it’s three minute runtime, which further strengthens the viewer’s desire to buy their own pair (speaking from experience here).
It’s another high-octane offering from the Melbourne/Naarm trio. be sure to check it out above and buy/stream it here. You can also check out their upcoming tour dates below.
