Serving up a three course meal of bass…

Sydney/Melbourne dance-pop collective Haiku Hands (made up Beatrice Lewis, Claire Nakazawa and Mie Nakazawa) are keeping the hype going after the release of their debut album last year, today sharing a remix for their bass-infused banger ‘Eat This Bass’ by IPON.

The remix sees the French producer turn up the intensity to a ridiculous degree, stripping away the driving kicks of the OG tune and filling the empty space with crushing 808s atop slowed down synths.

It cycles between a tonne of different sounds however, alternating between the dark and moody to the light and uplifting, most notably on the hook as with an underlying layer of momentous keys beneath the hard-hitting vocals of the Haiku Hands crew. It seems to be representative of IPON’s overall vision, with the producer explaining “I wanted to make the listener go through several emotions while listening to it like joy, anger and liberation.”

A pretty good range of emotions, all of which it sounds like Haiku Hands were feeling when they first heard the remix, with the trio reminiscing “I remember listening to the ‘Eat This Bass’ remix for the first time in a festival transport van on our way to Groovin the Moo in Perth. I didn’t know what to expect, Mad Decent had linked us with IPON. As the intro came in we were looking at each other, like ‘what is this…?’

“It was cranked up loud and as the beat dropped we started nodding our heads and making bass faces, which is what you want from a remix of ‘Eat This Bass’. It gets real epic and emo, I find it hilarious and awesome. Hope you do too!”
