Long-standing rap veterans Halfway Crooks will be teaming with two flourishing party-starting crews in Honey and Swiss Dank for their monthly jam, and it’s called ‘Crunk Juice.’ If it wasn’t evident by the title, this night is all about XXXL jeans and all of the loudest anthems from the South, laced with Lil Jon ad-libs for a nice finishing touch.
The lineup will feature all core members of all three cliques, making this a splendid showcase of the city’s favoured selectors, spanning both rooms of Hudson Ballroom. One will feature all of your favourite Crunk classics, while the other will have a focus on contemporary bangers coming out of Atlanta, Texas and the surrounding scenes. How many times will we request ‘Da Blow’ by Lil Jon or ‘Draped Up (Remix)’ by Bun B? Probably at least 7 times each.
“We always have to DJ somewhere else whenever there’s a Honey party or Swiss Dank night on. We love those guys and wanna be crowdsurfing while they DJ but our schedules are always fucked. So we thought if we came together like Voltron at the very least we’d be able to see each other play for once,” DJ Levins of Halfway Crooks said.
“Crunk was a revelation for me as a DJ. I was trying to be a serious DJ bro in the early noughties and clearing dancefloors by playing dull indie electronica. Then I heard Lil Jon’s Kings of Crunk album and thought it was the wildest thing I’d ever heard… I became enamoured with Southern rap because of Crunk and I love to revisit that era as often as possible – dedicating an entire room to this era (and Southern Rap/R&B in general) is super exciting for me,” he continues.
We’re expecting plenty of obnoxious yelling, sweat and perfectly ironed tall tees. Fun for the whole family! See the full lineup below, and get your tickets to Crunk Juice here:
