About an hour south of Sydney, there’s a place where farm paddocks meet the ocean named Gerringong. The one-street town has both a rural feel and a sleepy beach vibe to it with plenty of open space to cause mischief, surf and play loud music, or in the case of local quartet Pacific Avenue, all of the above.
That said, their brand of sun-soaked indie rock has found audiences beyond the (other) Gong, with the band selling out national tours off the back of their Strawberry Skies EP and amassing over a million Spotify streams in the past 12 months. Their latest single ‘My Hero’ sees them combine lofty melodic verses with a washed-out chorus that crawls in your ear and refuses to leave, with the lads riding the line between melancholic psych and droney pop perfectly.
But what of the place where it all began? We caught up with Harry, Jack, Ben, and Dom for a tour of Gerringong for the third episode of Happy Place, presented by Boost Mobile. Check it out:
