Sydney producer and EDM juggernaut Hayden James has burst through the stratosphere of lockdown to bring us a new offering this Friday morning, returning with his latest single ‘Rather Be With You’ featuring Crooked Colours vocalist Phil Slabber.
Following on from March’s ‘Foolproof’ with Gorgon City and Nat Dunn, ‘Rather Be With You’ sees the triple-platinum producer continue to venture into ethereal soundscapes and worlds, hypnotic synths meshed with shimmering drums and otherworldy 808s. Naturally, Phil Slabber fits perfectly on top of it all, his gentle tenor sensibilities collding with the various layers with total ease and effortlessness.
A highlight is that vortex-like drop, the acapella hook ‘I’d rather be with you’ launchig the listener into a cascade of textures, each of which burning with moody vibrance. It definitely takes us back to that totally off-chops set he played at Yours & Owls this year, punters going ravenous as the Northern Beaches songwriter threw down an overflow of bass, melody and groove.
It might be a while until we’re back at one of those festivals. But until then, be sure to check out Hayden James’ new single ‘Rather Be With You’ ft. Crooked Colours, which is out now. You can buy/stream it here. For our American friends reading this, check out his upcoming shows in North America below.
