Following his delightful performance for the Jim Beam Welcome Sessions, we look at the Swedish folk legend’s finest visuals.

With iconic East Berlin venue The Michelberger opening its doors once again to José González for episode number three of the Jim Beam Welcome Sessions we knew we were in for a treat. Shot in different locations throughout the venue the end result was a stunning rendition of ‘Valle Local’; a new track from his forthcoming Local Valley LP.

How do you top a performance like that, you ask. Well, we had to have ourselves a José González binge that is frankly showing no signs of slowing down. Below we’ve ranked our fave videos from González including the cartoonish ones, the weird ones, and everything in between. Check it out and stay tuned for the fourth and final installment of the Jim Beam Welcome Sessions – it’s going to be quite the closer!

‘Every Age’ – 2014

Reminiscent of Tame Impala’s ‘Lucidity’ clip, only a little more beautiful, this video embodies the optimism in the lyrics perfectly.

‘Teardrop’ – 2007

There’s something about the style of this cartoon that feels like ‘90s and early 2000s children’s cartoons. You can nearly imagine sitting on the floor watching it on the TV, right?

‘Visions’ – 2021

Who said that Google Maps was boring? Gotta take our hats off to whoever edited this clip, it couldn’t have been an easy job…

‘Leaf Off/The Cave’ – 2015

Not sure what church this is, but if it comes with free José González performances, you can count us in!

‘Head On’ – 2021

Gotta love the message behind this clip (if we’re getting it right!): music is life’s great connector. We couldn’t agree more.

‘Stay Alive’ – 2013

Part of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty soundtrack, this one sees González recreate the melancholy vibe of the film perfectly. Ben Stiller would be proud.

‘El Invento’ – 2021

With Local Valley set to be his first Spanish-speaking release, González does us plebs who can only speak English a bit of a favour here, by offering us subtitles – what a considerate guy.

‘Down The Line’ – 2017

We are now entering his pig-person phase, which sees him juxtapose beautiful melodies with creepy visuals. A million points for weirdness on this one.

‘Killing For Love’ – 2014

See above – once again things are getting piggish!

‘Crosses’ – 2006

Anyone else getting a big ‘Karma Police’ by Radiohead vibe here? Only this time the car isn’t getting set on fire.

‘Heartbeats’ – 2006

The song that made him a global star. The simpleness of the clip definitely allows us to get lost in the music, which we still are after all these years.
