$30K is up for grabs for the best Australian album.

Organisers of the Australian Music Prize have announced today the first 18 (of who knows how many) nominees in the running for the prestigious title and cash prize. In an expanded format, this year’s nominee list is expected to grow, with the judges reportedly having listened to over 250 albums already.

Who will join the like of for winners Gurrumul, Sampa the Great, Courtney Barnett, Hermitude, The Jezabels, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and The Drones? Check out the first batch of nominees and stay tuned to find out:
