Waiting on part two…

After an extensive run of shows across Europe, an Aussie tour with fellow rocker Ruby Field and surfing waves wherever they can find them, Aussie duo Hockey Dad are proving they are masters of multitasking, today releasing their latest single, ‘Still Have Room’.

Opening with a layer of steady drums, the pair set a steady and reflective tone as they contemplate past loves and lost friendships. The sonics embody this sentiment to a ‘T’, with gentle guitar strums and melodies helping frontman Zach Stephenson deliver an emotive and compelling vocal line about days gone by. He reassures the listener that, despite conflicts and hardships, there’s still room in his heart for those from his past. It’s one of the pair’s most stirring records to date, and incorporates subtle pop elements while maintaining the distinctive sound that has been a hallmark of the South Coast music scene.

The music video for ‘Still Have Room,’ directed by Jamieson Kerr, takes on an old-school caper theme, with band members Zach and Billy attempting to foil an art thief, portrayed by their bass player Steve Bourke. Shot in and around their hometown of Wollongong and the steelworks, the video captures the working-class spirit of the city along with its laid-back and fun-loving side. Particularly noteworthy are the scenes in which the band members comically attempt to steal their own artworks and drive to the lighthouse to overlook the city, with the clip slowly closing to black as we watch on behind them.

Speaking on the creative process behind his and Billy’s roles in the clip, Zach explains, “We play down on their luck artists who are in a fight to save their creations from an eccentric art thief,” Stephenson said. “Our bass player Steve Bourke came in and stole the show as per usual. It was great to work with Jamieson as he really brought our initial ideas into a whole new dimension and worked super hard running the shoot.”

It’s a laid back offering from the Windang duo that shows just how far they’ve come as a band (and actors). Their new single ‘Still Have Room’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here. Check out the official music video above along with their regional tour dates below.
