Today we’re serving you up a slice of multi-genre goodness, featuring some of Sydney’s most promising young acts. We’re in love with them all, and you will be too.
Check it below.
Ms. Thandi is an onslaught of sophistication and soul, the Sydney R&B songstress always willing to bless us mere mortals with the enchantment of her spirit. She curates these beautiful canvases of the heart that call it back to OGs like Janet and Erykah, all the while forging her own glorious path. ‘Hunny’ dips its toes in various colours ever so gracefully, splashing some vibrant shades of R&B and Neo-Soul with a smidge of dance sprinkled in for good measure. She never fails to caress our inner beings with those silky af vocals, and whether it be singing, rapping, or even humming, it doesn’t matter. Ms. Thandi’s art is totally unique, and is wonderful proof that the artists of tomorrow are truly carrying the light of those who came before.
After years of grinding and making her mark behind the scenes, Sydney’s Jasmine Khan has finally dropped her long-awaited debut single, and of course, it’s totally fire. Linking up with the OG Taka Perry, Khan comes through with an R&B gem that feels astonishingly fresh in ‘Gameboy’, and it’s completely uncompromising. It’s not concerned with playing to an audience or selling a false image, it’s just pure feeling, pure art. Featuring a steady keys-driven beat and some transcendent harmonies that you just know Khan would’ve smashed in one take, the tune emanates a confidence that reeks of quiet determination, reeks of an artist who’s put in the hours and who’s pushed herself further than most consider possible. ‘Gameboy’ is just the beginning, and you’d be doing yourself a favour if you jumped on the train now.
Northern Beaches psych-outfit Eagle Eye Jones are serious killers in the Sydney stratosphere, selling out venues like Hotel Steyne, The Vanguard and most recently The Landsdowne with total ease. The five-piece are essentially what you get when you take everything you’ve learnt from the forefathers of rock, blues and psychedelia, and throw it into the beautiful fire of the Aussie gig scene. ‘Never Get You Down’ is a bustling magnification of the senses, those colourful guitar lines and funk-filled synths setting the stage for frontmen Luke Saunders and Toby Jones’ badass vocals to tear the house down. The tune effortlessly captures a balance of suave and grit that are ridiculously addictive, and it’s definitely one that ages like the richest of wines.
Melbourne electro-pop duo GL capture the magic of the Northern Lights and pepper it with gorgeous sonic elixir in ‘Endlessly’, crafting a honest exploration of love in all of its wonderful complexity. Starting off with an incredibly satisfying beat and killer bass, singer Ella Thompson wastes no time in spreading angelic embers with those pristine vocals. The tune also features some heavenly harmonies and keys that catapult you into pure bliss, transcending the spirit higher than the tallest of skyscrapers. The sonic palette GL draw from is beautifully nostalgic and uplifting, more than capturing the magic of the ’80s while showering it with some classy modern flavouring. It’s essentially rainbow-flavoured fairy floss in a tune, definitely check it out.
Throw it back and give into your feels, Sydney’s RISSA is here to soundtrack the depths of your heart. Crafting a funkadelic beat paired with a careful overflow of keys and harmonies, RISSA takes you on an other-worldly journey with ‘Twisted’ that transcends dimension and lyric, entrancing you to the power of her vision. The hook unfolds like a flower dripping with the sweet nectar of promise, cleansing you of all your doubts, worries and impurities. Long story short, the tune is a gorgeous invitation to get deep into your feels, all the while spiritually resetting in the purest way possible. Definitely get on this now folks, you won’t regret it.
