How lucky are we…

How are we going lovely people? Good we hope. It’s pretty sick to be a music fan in Australia at this time. Don’t get me wrong, the inconsistency of gigs and such is anxiety-inducing as hell, but just to be a lover of music with the amount of music coming out right now is pretty damn special, and we’re totally spoiled for choice.

Chelsea Warner – ‘Drama’

Sydney shooting star Chelsea Warner continues her lush blend of alt-pop and R&B on ‘Drama,’ unfiltered waves of cool washing over as she curates a self-confessional diss track to her dramatic side; the part that’s untouchable.

The tune sees the multi instrumentalist wonder flex those expansive production chops on us in tandem with her precision as a songwriter, crafting a wavy sonic gem of a beat that unfurls and lingers with total grace. And her vocals are straight fire of course, steaming with smoky soul as she gets deep in her raspy lower range to her fluttery head voice, maintaining total control throughout. The harmonies injected throughout the track are super sultry as well, sparkling with lush poise and exuberance, most notably on the hook where she sings ‘love your eyes on me, secretly’ that just bubbles with allure.

Definitely a track that you’ll be bumping on repeat before you even know what you’re doing, it’s a quality pick. Check it below.

Chris Lanzon – ‘Always Forever’

Sydney singer-songwriter Chris Lanzon finds his way into our hearts with his latest single ‘Always Forever,’ crafting a heartfelt acoustic ballad that’s flooded with warmth; hints of hope and optimism sprinkled throughout. The tune starts with some high pitched renditions of the hook are innocent and childlike, before Chris makes his way in with gentle harmonies that feel totally inspired; the juxtaposition of the two listening like a big brother assuring his little sibling that he’s always going to be there for them.

The purity of his tone is what really seals the deal though, the ‘Iris’ singer not being afraid to play with volume and phrasing as he follows the feeling of lyrics like ‘All that I do/ I do it for you/ I swear, always forever.’ The final utterance of the hook sees him just totally pack the emotional punches, singing completely acapella with enough emotion to stop the flow of time.

Kirsten Salty – ‘Limbo’

Sydney singer-songwriter Kirsten Salty emanates soulful sass on ‘Limbo,’ getting deep on that awkward phase with a loved one where you find yourself realising that you’re on totally different wavelengths. The track sees her double down on her seemingly effortless talents to harness energy and mood, capturing the bubblegum vibrance 2000s pop (a period that gets no where near enough praise) along with 2021 steeze and heart. Sonically the track glimmers and sparkles with soulful thrills, the hook properly making you pop with each utterance of ‘Limbo’.

The construction of the tune is super vivid in terms of sonic construction, the gentle keys and drums setting a real ethereal meets matinee type of vibe. Her vocals are totally on point as well, striking a hard-hitting balance between powerful and sultry as she sings about finding her way back to self-love after a shitty break up, phrases like ‘how long can we go’ totally washing over your being.

Parcels – ‘Free’

Byron Bay five-piece Parcels croon us into serenity on ‘Free,’ crafting a bustling soundscape that listens like a 60s soap opera where everything made sense and the world was full of hope. The band start with some soulful falsettos and funk-injected piano lines, each phrase overlapping with the other as lead singer Jules and the rest of her bandmates serenade each other while spread across the globe in 2020. The now Europe-based supergroup really capture that air of nostalgia as well, with everything from the whimsical instrumental layers to the sun-kissed music video just bursting with life and vibrance.

It all comes together around 2:40, the textures and harmonies pushing each other to go higher and spread their wings wider; soaring together into eternity and forever. Definitely a track that’ll uplift you this Friday morning, we’re big fans. Check it below.

Ms. Thandi – ‘The Eyes’

Inner west singer-songwriter Ms. Thandi is a silhouette of sensuality in ‘The Eyes,’ the soul-starlet showing us all that she oozes fire and exudes soul. The tune sees her dial things down a bit from last year’s ‘HUNNY,’ going slow and steady with a glorious hint of danger. Starting off with that instantly recognisable tone, she invites us into her world as she sits in the pocket of raindrop synths and twangy guitar licks; the instrumentation almost swirling around her like a spotlight of sonics, exhilarating reds and oranges burning like an otherworldly sunset.

The hook sees her totally flex her control in both a vocal and musical sense, lyrics like ‘I can feel you pulling on this heart of mine/I can hear you calling me by your side’ leaving you hanging off her every word like a drug. It’s almost like its a track designed to find that auditory sweet spot and go all the way in, each resulting replay entrancing you even further into her world.
