Starting December strong…

Well, the fire keeps on coming. Each and every week new tunes are released by the tenfold, and just judging by the amount of track’s we’re being swarmed with, it doesn’t look like it’s gonna stop any time soon. But as always, the more the merrier. And so, here are five fresh tracks by local artists.

Billy Fox (Sydney/Eora) – ‘Break This Hunger’

Billy Fox eludes genre and confinement with his latest mind warper ‘Break This Hunger,’ the singer-songwriter serving up a slice of indie, electronica, drum & bass and basically every genre under the sun.

The slow burn sees the Sydney muso link up with electro wizz Pat Caroll, utilising striking sonics that sound alien but familiar. Billy’s vocals are especially soothing in this cut, his falsetto and chest voice cutting through the meditative sonics; matching their salience with ease (especially on moments like 1:58) as he sings about the struggles of being an artist in Australia.

Wanna challenge your listening palette? Billy will break your cycle with ‘Break This Hunger.’

Elaskia (Central Coast/Darkinjung) – ‘Better’

Central coast starlet Elaskia hits you with some invigorating synth pop in her latest heater ‘Better,’ the Home & Away soundtrack proving that whether it be the slow and steady or fast and dangerous, she’s capable of doing it all.

Again her buttery tone is on full display in this number gliding over flicking guitar licks and ember like synths that burn with allure. It definitely treads the midway between ballad and banger, all while being tempered with a splash of sass as the sings about the importance of self-validation and individuality.

Wanna get in your feels while grooving your heart out? Feel better with Elaskia’s track of the same name below.

Rino (Melbourne/Naarm) – ‘Impulse’

Rino revitalises you with a bit of sonic existentialism on  his latest offering ‘Impulse’ the title track of his new EP filled with invigoration and mysticism.

The track bubbles and brews with all the trademarks of electronica, pondering synths and lingering drums taking residency in the six minute runtime. It’s got an almost orchestral quality to it as well, the Indonesian-born producer taking you on a journey deep into the expanse with the addition of trance-like vocals and organic samples. It all works perfectly however, the fleeting sonics listening as totally inspired and spontaneous.

Long story short, if you’re in need of some good come down music and need to be reminded that there’s hope in the world, Rino has you covered with ‘Impulse.’

Pania (Melbourne/Naarm) – ‘proof’

Pania sizzles with sass and steeze on her latest firestarter ‘proof,’ the naarm enchantress getting bold with alt-R&B flare and transcendent vulnerability.

The new offering sees her flutter atop Latin-reminiscent synths and drums, the rising muso taking inspiration from the R&B and cultural soundscapes for a melting pot of groove. Her vocals are especially fiery in this cut too, bursting with soul that traverses all distance and separation, particularly on the hook “But when u love me/U can lay it all on me.”

Wanna feel alive and invigorated this Friday morning? Here’s your proof that there’s plenty of things to get excited about as we head into this weekend, especially the talent brewing in the local music scene.

Purple Drapes (Sydney/Eora) – ‘Fly With Me’

Purple drapes puts you at ease with his latest soother ‘Fly With Me,’ the homegrown muso doubling down on his husky inclinations for a breezy offering that’s impossible not to get around.

The Eora muso immediately sets a hazy mood reminiscent of summertime, tangy guitar licks and euphoric synths providing a sounding word for Drapes’ repetition of the title lyric. Once the various layers all collide however, it’s a soundscape of indie sweetness; the slow drums and soulful chords giving a real Steve Lacy, DIY vibe that’s instantly accessible.

The hook is where it all comes together however, Drapes urging the listener to “Fly With Me” as the waves of instrumentation wash over, filling you with equal measures of invigoration and relaxation.
