Ending the week strong…

Well, we’ve reached the end of another week and with it we’ve gotten our earholes around plenty of new offerings from local artists. The new tunes just keep on coming and, of course, we’re absolutely fiending for them. And so, here are five fire tracks by local artists that we’re bumping on repeat:

Tina Says & PROJECT BEXX (Perth/Moroo) – ‘RUN THIS TOWN’

Tina Says and PROJECT BEXX join forces for a hypnotic mind-warper in their latest collab ‘Run This Town,’ the two producers serving up plenty of sass and allure that commands you to take notice. 

Made up of the two producers’ respective sonic talents, the groove finds a nice mid way between house banger and jazzy-slow burn, floor to the floor drums and synths contrasting with BEXX’s smoky vocal chops.

But through it all, it’s affirmation groove from the two muses’s proclaiming that regardless of the challenges they’ve faced in their careers so far, they’re still fully ready to ‘Run This Town.’ 

Boy Soda (Sydney/Eora) – ‘Welcome To The Glow Up’ 

Steeze machine Boy Soda proves he’s well and truly arrived onto the Eora R&B scene with his latest single ‘Welcome To The Glow Up,’ the young crooner following up the swooning love notes of ‘LOVEU2BITS’ with equal measures of bravado and confidence.

Energy-wise this is the most hyped up we’ve seen the singer-songwriter, charged up synths and drums taking up residency in the three-minute runtime. The sonics are especially vibrant in this cut as well, the multi-modal synths and drums magnifying his falsetto and chest voice with total resonance.

Singing about his confidence in his art going forward, the young star properly grows into the character he teased in his debut ‘Daisy Chain’ video, everything from his lyricism to his vocals injected with this sense of self-fulfilment that fills you with excitement. 

Chutney (Gold Coast/ Yugambeh) – ‘Life I Like’

Chutney dig deep on the perils of overindulgence in ‘Life I Like,’  the Yugambeh indie-rock outfit giving a raw and unfiltered look at the messy parts of the human condition, the parts we always fail to hone in on.

Naturally, frontman Matt Hansford embodies the sense of regret that results from over-intoxication, his vocals tinged with equal measures of pain and torment, a duality enhanced by the surrounding guitar lines and drum fills. The outro really drives home the emotion of the track, every vocal and instrumental layer colliding as they mirror the pain that results from hitting rock bottom, and the desire to get the hell out of it. 

It’s a punchy rock track that doesn’t compromise on meaning or grit, and regardless of your vice of choice, we’re betting it’ll definitely strike a chord in some shape or way.

Ellen Bryant (Melbourne/Naarm) – ‘Unravel’

Ellen Bryant doubles down on her neo-soul roots in her latest single ‘Unravel,’ the singer-songwriter serving up her most sensual cut yet as she affirms the importance of vulnerability.  

Sonically the accompanying beat is on the more refined side, tender keys and a steady drum line allowing Bryant’s vocals and lyricism to shine in their full form. Her vibrato gets plenty of spotlight as well, her alternation between her head and chest voice tempered by her sultry tone as she calls back to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.

It’s definitely some easy listening that’ll tease and put you at ease, a concoction we can more than get behind. 

Cyrus (Sydney/Eora) – ‘A380’ 

Cyrus flies high and strong with his latest single ‘A380,’ the producer magnate delivering a multi-genre bop in ‘A380’ that’s both freeing and grounding. 

The tune sees the muso surround himself with airy synths, hip hop drums, stabbyh horns and essentially a little hallmark from every genre. But embedded through it all is his emotive vocals, his tenor utterances celebrating a love that once was without lamenting on its eventual ending.

The hook consequently is a melting pot of genre and gratitude, the various textures meshing as the track fills you with a sense of euphoria, most notably on Cyrus’ falsetto on “Next to you.”
