Yeah, we know that Splendour In The Grass officially kicks off tomorrow night, but it’s the Thursday pre-party where some of our best festival memories have been born.

Tonight, Red Bull Music will be hosting ‘A Night With’ at the Mix Up Tent from 6:00pm; featuring Manu Crook$, Baker Boy, Klasik, SK Simeon and many more of Australia’s most exciting acts. Among them are Sydney club legends Hoops, represented by Nina Las Vegas and Bad Ezzy. Having performed at Splendour for many years, Hoops know a thing or two about getting festival crowds moving with vigour, taking us on adrenaline-fuelled journeys through hip-hop, dancehall, electronic, beat music and everything in between.

Ahead of tonight’s shenanigans, Hoops take us through some of their favourite Splendour In The Grass memories, stretching all the way back to 2008. See them all below, and if you’re up in Byron Bay, catch Hoops at the Mix Up Tent tonight:

Never leaving the Smirnoff tent in 2008. Trying to find photos of this set is hard, maybe because it was in peak Bang Gang, Ro Sham Bo, Hoops era and we really can’t remember the weekend or who was playing. It was pretty lit in the Smirnoff tent tbh, why leave?

We took a huge awkward lean photo while Anna was DJing in 2010. Nothing says supportive friends like organising a huge awkward lean shot with randoms during an Anna Lunoe set.

In 2012, we played together on the Mix Up stage and boy did we go nuts. We prepped every minute of the set, playing all your fav dancehall, rap, club and bloghouse music and looked A+ in Something Else Ken Done attire. Cassian also really bugged Nina as she was trying to get the girls to the stage, so she yelled out ‘GO AWAY CASSIAN!’ only to realise he was giving Anna her CDs, which she forgot.

2013? Almost missing our set and driving on the wrong side of the road to get there. Ezzy and Nina had to play a Thursday night set at the Woodford site and definitely didn’t arrive earlier enough. There was a HUGE traffic jam (4 hours?) so they just winged it and drove on the other side of the road.

Silenco – we glamped at the Woodford site one year and could hear really loud sex one night. The thing was, we could only hear a woman so we proceeded to presume that the male in the arrangement was called ‘Silenco’ and we spent a whole hungover morning dreaming him up. We imagined him having a moustache (lol) and then proceeded to point out any male that could fit the Silenco bill. Pic Nina took of said male attached.
