Taking over the reigns after a four-year Pacha stint, Ministry of Sound will be hitting ivy each and every Saturday night, looking to provide a next-level clubbing experience for the city’s hungriest punters. The opening rave will see Ministry of Sound providing entertainment from relentless party-starters Peking Duk, house veteran Sandy Rivera and dynamite local duo Kinder.
To get a better idea of what to expect when we head to ivy this Saturday night, we spoke to Ministry CEO Tim McGee about their vision for Sydney’s clubbing scene and what they’ve got in store. Read below, and grab final release tickets right here:
In terms of the similarities, the music comes first. We want to deliver the best experience in clubbing by delivering on the basics very well – a cracking sound system with high calibre DJs playing whatever genre is on point and exciting. We want to make a hub for a clubbing family that delivers week in, week out.
As for the differences, obviously Sydney has not been built out of an old bus shelter, but we have an amazing building that is being transformed to deliver on the ethos of Ministry of Sound in London after six months of planning.
I’m a firm believer that great things are built in times of change and hardship. To sit on the sidelines and not affect change is not what we are about.
There isn’t another venue in Australia like ivy. It’s completely unique in its structure and diversity of areas, along with a management team at Merivale who are open to making and bringing about wholesale change and doing whatever is necessary to fulfil our vision. In a time when options for great clubs in Sydney are limited, it presented the perfect opportunity to deliver something special.
We will be operating over four floors across both buildings in the ivy complex, with new orientations for a few of the spaces opening up areas and overall making the venue more dancefloor focussed with better lines of sight for DJ booths etc, whilst delivering some more areas for guest to sit and enjoy watching the party go by or simply catching your breath before diving in again.

We want to capture exciting music trends as they develop and excite people.
With the Duks and Sandy it’s the best of both worlds for us. Peking Duk are the ultimate good time guys, where clubbers can lose themselves in the moment, whilst Sandy at the Pool will be playing the best of house music both new and old, delivering a new experience at Pool Club where fans both old and new of the Ministry of Sound brand will feel welcome.

We hope it will give Sydney a focal point where clubbers who are into good music really feel at home.
June 17th we have the legendary John 00 Fleming playing a 7-hour ‘open-to-close’ set, then on June 24th we have Los Angeles’ Drezo headlining. Keep an eye on our website for some more exciting announcements.
You can only go to the opening of a club once. Don’t be put off by the weather. We have a few surprises up our sleeve that will have you covered.
