Australian producer Spenda C is a man who refuses to be bound by genre.

The Australian club veteran has long commanded the decks with great success, earning a mammoth 10 year residency at Sydney’s Chinese Laundry. As one half of The Mane Thing, he dabbled in moombahton while his solo material continues to bridge the gap between bass-heavy beats and Southern rap influences.

Having grown up listening to punk legends like Social Distortion and NYHC staples like H2O, his recent The Plug Project combines riffs and beats with Australia’s latest emerging rappers like I AM D, Midas.Gold and Ivan Ooze. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he’s tapped hyperactive Sydney emcees Cult Shotta as collaborators on his new single ‘Release.’

On ‘Release,’ Cult Shotta take a more relaxed route by rapping over sunny synths from Spenda C, while the vocal hook and reflective keys also give this more crossover appeal. The two parties will be joining forces to tour ‘Release’ across Australia, so before the trip, we got Spenda C to threw a few questions at Cult Shotta – read below, where you’ll also find the crucial dates:

What is a Scoomptie and how do I get one?

A Scoomptie is a down ass female, you can get one by being a Shotta.

Who would be your dream Australian artist to collab with?

I’ve always wanted to work with Snob Scrilla, I don’t know where he is RN though.

Hennessy or Fat Lamb?

If you weren’t rappers what would you be?

Well Hype was close to being a rugby player until he became a cooked kent haha & for me, it was either rapper or wrestler. Charles Hardy.

You guys are known for pushing you’re own unique dress styles. What’s the next big street trend in fashion?

Hmmm I don’t even know, I feel like the 2000s is having a rebirth though a lot of like early Dipset & Lil Wayne looks.
