Alongside all the critics, one man to voice his frustrations about the film was Jared Leto, who played Joker in Suicide Squad. He took aim at the character’s limited screen time, saying that “there were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.”
According to Variety, Warner Bros and DC have tapped Leto “to star and exec produce an untitled standalone film, paving the way for future movies branching from Suicide Squad.” While this latest revelation is a chance for Leto to give his character some justice, it isn’t the first standalone Joker film announced by Warner Bros. Confusingly, in 2017 it was revealed that they would be creating a Joker film that explores his dark origin story, without the help of Jared Leto.
So, there’s two Joker films: One with Jared Leto, one without, and plenty of people stating that we don’t need either. There’s also Margot Robbie’s own film centred around Harley Quinn, so it looks like there’ll be Suicide Squad goodies well into the near future.
