Way back in April 2017, the legendary New York rapper’s music vanished from Spotify in what most people read as a way to boost Tidal subscriptions. ‘He’s not a businessman; he’s a business, man.’ Now over two years later, and on Jay Z’s 50th birthday, his albums have returned to the platform from Reasonable Doubt right through to 4:44, including the previously withheld Blueprint albums.
While the news itself is a welcome surprise, the fact he saved the occasion for the 4th of December is a little less shocking. Hov has always had an affinity for the number four, from his and Beyoncé both being born on the fourth day of their respective months, to their wedding on 04/04/08, the naming of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter (as in the roman numeral IV… get it?) and of course his most recent album title, 4:44. Either way, we’re excited to sink into some vintage Hov. Welcome back Jay!
