Fresh off the back of her Triple J Bars of Steel appearance this week, New Zealand rapper JessB is back in the spotlight today with the release of her New Views EP along with a new music video for her latest single ‘So Low’.
Cementing her status as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most exciting rising rappers, New Views shows off JessB’s versatility as her seemingly slow, heavy cadence deftly navigates and aligns with different styles of production across diverse hip hop sub-genres. As if all her raps were penned in indelible ink (or typed in bold), despite the variety in production and guest features, JessB’s voice takes centre stage at all times.
Recent hits ‘Mood’ and ‘Bump Bump’ featuring Church Leon feature on the project, alongside a new single ‘So Low’ featuring Paige. The latter is among the most personal tracks on the EP as JessB delves into the aftermath of a broken relationship and the healing process that follows. Directed by Connie Cash, the accompanying video clip is an emotive reflection of those introspective bars and sweet, searching melodies. In contrast, catch her bar up on new tracks like ‘New Era’ and ‘POE’ featuring Yaw Faso, as JessB flexes her lyrical prowess.
