It’s no secret Kanye West & his mother Donda were extremely close, with the pair being open in the press about their deep relationship and the strong love they had for each other. So when Donda West passed away in 2007 due to surgical complications, Kanye was definitely in a rough place. But he’s more than honoured her over the years. From starting a foundation in her name to dropping songs like ‘Hey Mama’ & ‘Only One’ for her, its safe to say she’s never left her heart.
And he’s come through again for her 71st birthday, dropping ‘Donda’ which has the late Chicago native reciting KRS-One lyrics from the song ‘Sound of da Police’ but with some gorgeous gospel vocals in the background. Ye cuts in at around the 1:30 mark, throwing down some bars about the state of the world & how much he misses her.
Earlier in the day, his wife Kim Kardashian West dropped a minute long clip showing Ye & Donda rapping ‘Hey Mama’ together, which ended up in the video for ‘Donda’. It’s safe to say West is missing her more than offer right now, and the song is a gorgeous tribute to what was an amazing woman. Check out the new tune & the footage of mother and son rapping together below.
