Beloved psychedelic trio Khruangbin have won hearts far and wide, their distinct blend of funk, rock, soul and more cementing their sound as one of the most recognisable in contemporary music. So, you can understand the excitement at the prospect of new music from the trio, who have so far stayed silent on the music for the past two years. Now, however, it’s a new day, and with it we’ve gotten new msuic, with the trio release ‘A love International’ this Wednesday morning.
A nostalgic nod to early works like 2015’s The Universe Smiles Upon You, the single is driven forth by the intricate guitar stylings of Mark Speer, who’s backed by a steady drumbeat by DJ Johnson and funkadelic baseline by Laura Lee. The track stays relatively consistent throughout its five minute runtime, with the guitar acting as a kind of vocal line as it makes its way up and down the octave in what’s a meditative journey into the heart of Khruangbin’s sound.
Along with the new single comes tasty news as to more new music, with the band announcing their fourth studio album (and first in five years), A LA SALA, which is slated to land on April 5th. Translated to “To the Room” in Spanish,, the record is built upon the group’s extensive musical journey and has a little something for fans of all eras of the Khruangbin discography. From the mid-tempo grooves of ‘Three From Two’ and ‘May Ninth’ to the skeletal ‘Farolim de Felgueiras’ and ‘Caja de la Sala’ and ambient ‘Les Petits Gris’, A LA SALA is being slated to be a full time capsule of the band’s past, present and future, and will no doubt make for a hell of a live show.
