King Gizzard Drop Blues-Flavoured Jam ‘Boogieman Sam’
Keeping us guessing.

Fishing For Fishies is sounding like some sort country/blues/electro mashup.

Having dropped seven minutes of synths and vocoder-heavy vocals a couple of months back in the form of ‘Cyboogie’ – the first single from their forthcoming album Fishing For Fishies – King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard’s subsequent releases have indicated they might be pulling into less of an electro direction. The album’s title track, which came out a couple of weeks back, had more of a folky flavour and today’s single ‘Boogieman Sam’ feels a little like an amalgamation of the two.

Should we really be surprised that the band who are releasing their first record since their four concept albums of 2017 have decided to meld a couple of seemingly incompatible genres? Not really, it’s classic Gizz, forever keeping us on our toes. Fishing For Fishies is out April 26th, so you can judge for yourself whether their unholy marriage of genres is artistic genius or Frankenstein’s Monster.
