The band just played the first stop of their ‘That’s Where I Wanna Be’ tour over the weekend…

Following the release of their debut album last year, North East Arnhem Land outfit King Stingray have been on quite a tear of the nation, playing a stacked NYE run of the nation’s biggest festivals and enjoying rave reviews for their first LP. However, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve gotten new music from the six-piece, which all changes with the release of their latest single, ‘Lookin Out’.

In accordance with their self-described brand of ‘Yolnu surf rock’, the new single features ravenous guitars, raucous drum lines and soulful lyrics infused with the ancient Indigenous melodies that the band have been universally praised for. Frontman Yirrŋa serves up his most impressive vocals to date on the new number, meshing attitude with a breezy sense of relaxation as he sings about the beauty of the natural world and the band’s own experiences in the heart of the land.

The accompanying visuals takes viewers on just as potent a journey as its sonic counterpart, combining archival tour footage with vibrant imagery from the Great Barrier Reef and the band’s hometown of Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land. The visuals perfectly embody King Stingrays love of home and country, most notably shown at 2:30 when the visuals transition from black and white studio shots to vibrantly scenes of the ocean, a detail that is perfectly complimented by the ‘Lookin Out’ chorus.

It’s another instant classic from the band, and luckily, King Stingray fans will be able to see it all up close & personal for their ‘That’s Where I Wanna Be Tour’, which kicked off over the weekend in Sydney. Supported by George Alice and Old Mervs, these shows definitely aren’t on to miss (remaining tickets here). For now, be sure to check out King Stingray’s new video for ‘Lookin Out’ above and be sure to buy/stream it here.
