Take me back.

You remember the days when artists like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, The Bravery etc. etc. were at the height of their powers? It was a glorious time for skinny jeans, thrift-store jackets and Converse, with the bands of the time taking influence from the glory days of post-punk 80s bands.

It’s clear that Melbourne indie outfit Kitschen Boy also have these bands in their playlists, though unlike the many imitators of this sound, they pull it off with precision songwriting and extremely tidy musicality. Today we have ‘The Perfect Excuse’ which is the perfect example of hoe bloody good these guys are at crafting a brooding but fun banger.

“This song comes from a place of self criticism, facetiously mocking myself for using depression and anxiety as an excuse to delay making an effort to change my circumstances and improve my life for the better,” frontman Dylan Baddeley says of the track. “It’s the perpetuation of fear that if I push myself to get it together I won’t succeed. It centres around a choral repetition of an internal monologue telling myself I might as well not bother if I’m not gonna get it right but that sarcastically of course I’ve got the perfect excuse.”

To celebrate the release, they’ll be hitting the road with There’s A Tuesday in April and May hitting NZ’s North and South islands along with Australia’s East Coast. Follow them on IG for updates!
