Inner West four-piece The Lazy Eyes have ticked another milestone off their bucket list this morning, playing triple j’s hallowed Like A Version

It feels like just yesterday that the rising stars were first cutting their teeth on the local music scene, the Newtown four-piece making laps around the Inner West and playing the likes of Mary’s Underground, The Lansdowne and Redfern Surf Club. Since those early days, they’ve experienced a meteoric rise to prominence, playing Splendour In The Grass, opening for The Strokes and releasing their debut album, Songbook.

Now, however, the psychedelic outfit have finally taken to Like A Version, covering the Bee Gees ‘More Than A Woman’ this Friday morning. It’s definitely not a cover you’d expect from the ‘Cheesy Love Song’ singers, but they make it their own in true Lazy Eyes fashion, they with a steady guitar line and tight arrangement putting a rocky twist on the ’70s pop classic.

It definitely listens as a more grounded rendition of the track, with frontman Harvey’s tenor vocals adding an extra sense of intimacy not present in the original. And of course, their guitar playing is as sharp as ever, with plenty of solos and toplines helping to straddle the line before heater and ballad. Check it out below, along with their full breakdown of the cover above.
