Sounds exactly like the plot of a Seth Rogen film…

Following making their mark on North America by supporting some of the biggest bands in the world, homegrown rockers Le Shiv have returned to their roots for their next chapter, which begins today with the release of their new single, ‘Where’s My Money’.

Listening like an amalgamation of early 2000’s indie with new-age surf rock, the new record from the ‘Something I Said’ hitmakers is a tongue-in-cheek imagining of what you get when a hippie owes a dealer money. It’s a hilarious premise, one which the five piece bring equal measures of grit and levity to, particularly on the hook as they sardonically ask where in fact their money is, but to no avail.

The instrumentation go on a total journey as well as the vocals, shifting from head-bashing strums and drum lines to double time arpeggios and fingerpicking. It’s definitely one of Le Shiv’s more free-flowing records, one you just know was both conceived and completed within a single jam session.

Speaking on how the tune is born from their time in North America and eventual return home, the band explain, “Up until now, the band had been flying by the seat of our pants, just recording and releasing music as we all lived on the road in our campervan supporting some of our favorite bands around North America. When COVID happened, we all moved back to Australia, and it gave us time to write and record a heap of music. This is the first time where we have a lot of releases scheduled, a bigger body of work coming, and lots of touring plans at home.”

Safe to say that if I ever see a hippie and a dealer walking into a bar together, this song will instantly start playing in my mind.  Le Shiv’s new single ‘Where’s My Money’ is out now. You can buy/stream it here. Be sure to check out the full video above along with their Aussie tour dates below.
