The ‘In Control’ rapper was meant to play Splendour’s amphitheater stage on day one of the festival…

But of course, we all know why that didn’t go ahead, severe rainfall and mudding shutting down all main stage artists for the long-awaited return of Splendour In The Grass. However, like many of his fellow artists who’d been done over by the weather, Baker Boy was keen for the show to go on, taking his band (and Aussie rock icon, Bernard Fanning) to the Beachy in Byron’s town centre to make up for lost time.

And luckily, they caught the whole thing on camera, Baker Boy and his team pivoting from the previous Splendour performance they planned to film to one on a pub stage. The result is a wholesome, authentic, but nonetheless raw, snapshot at just how much went into putting on the replacement show. Shots from the Beachy event are juxtaposed with shots of the rapper at both the festival and en-route, meshing tangible pre-show excitement with that of packing out the beachy with a sea of punters.

It all culminates in the iconic hook of the 2005 hit, with the clip and live audio from the Beachy gig zeroing in on Fanning and his vocals as the crowd eats it up. And of course, we’re treated to plenty of shots of Baker Boy on stage with the former Powderfinger frontman, the two going back and forth on stage in what’s a cross-genre duet that totally works.

Speaking on the last minute effort behind the clip, Baker Boy explains, “All the footage on the bus, was on the way to Splendour before the first day was cancelled. We were all so hyped for the performance, but I’m stoked that we pivoted to do the show at the Beachy and that the crew were all down to keep making the video and capture that story instead”.
